Signed by writer Alex Woolfson!
SYNOPSIS: Deacon, a prototype android soldier, was ordered by his corporate masters to eliminate a team of scientists who knew too much and he has failed spectacularly. Not only did he let one of his targets live -- 19-year-old human outcast, Jeff Linnell -- he attacked the team sent to retrieve him. Now the Corporation demands answers and they have employed the brilliant and ruthless robopsychologist Clarice Maven to get them.
Deacon seems desperate to conceal the shocking events that took place on Da Vinci 4, but what chance does he have fighting an adversary who can control his every move?
"...the narrative grips the reader from the first panel to the last, treating the audience to a moving rumination on love, free will, sexuality, and the question of whether a machine can feel. Woolfson and Nelson cover this familiar territory with fresh eyes, bolstered by solid artwork; it’s an emotional winner that deserves notice."
- Publishers Weekly
"Comic fans who love sci-fi, action, and gay romance won’t want to miss Alex Woolfson and Winona Nelson’s new graphic novel Artifice. Not only because the story features gay protagonists, but because the comic portrays their relationship as completely normal."
- The Advocate
(Artifice was also listed by The Advocate as one of the Top 5 LGBT Graphic Novels of 2013!)
"I really loved ARTIFICE – it’s the kind of story that would have meant everything to me as a teen reader, and even as an adult, this gay-positive sci fi graphic novel made me so happy. I actually intended to just read the first page or so (since I didn’t have a lot of time) and ended up reading it through to the end, everything else pushed aside. Just like the best sci-fi and fantasy books did for me when I was a teen, reading with a flashlight under the covers until 3 or 4 in the morning, when my Dad would get up and I’d have to fast-pretend to be asleep!"
- I’m here. I’m queer. What the hell do I read?
"As I hold a copy in my hands, I can assure you that the beautifully bound graphic novel is printed with quality, its glossy cover and thick pages making it the kind of book you’d willingly add to your coffee-table collection. It’s a gorgeous work of art…"

I'm absolutely floored not only by the story and art, but also by the quality of printing in this book. I recommend it to everyone!

Artifice is without a doubt a spectacular graphic novel and is so beautiful and adorable that you may very well just want to wish away all the horrendous things that will befall our sweet protagonists. The art is rich in tone and the expressions and body language show a dedication to maximising the already enchanting writing which took us fluidly through the story without the sensation of being pulled and shoved into each new scene that some authors give you in their clumsy attempt to finish the story. Not only was the graphic novel worth buying (I had read it a few years ago online and simply had to buy it when I could finally do such a thing) but it arrived well within the period of time the author said it would and great customer service. It really was one of the most fantastic novels I've had the pleasure of reading. I have only one complaint and it's this: I can't figure out where to put one of the crowning treasures of my literary collection!
Seriously, thank you for the fantastic story! It really is one of my most favourite books.
P.s No, I'm not mispelling words. I live in Australia. We have a fun way of doing things =)

I just received it in perfect condition (with an autograph and everything)! The format is bigger then I expected it, and I can't wait to lend it to my friends cause I've been talking about that comic for days now. Now I just have to buy some prints of those main characters. ^^

I started reading Artifice this afternoon and could NOT put it down. The story telling was so compelling that I had to continue on to the end. As I read the story, I couldn't help but think the new Fox television series, Almost Human, was based on this story. The artwork is incredibly detailed yet not overwhelming. I truly hope there are plans to continue this tale!

I have read the online version a few times, getting caught-up in the story each time. Now with the actual GN in my hands, I will have an even harder time getting away from it.
The book is a beauty. I really want to thank Alex and Winona for the excellent work and all the effort they put into the story and the art.
Artifice is one of the few GN's that I will keep my hands on for the duration.
Thank you again!!!
